In 2001, Darrin and his wife moved to Charlotte and started an Insurance Agency, “THE RANKIN INSURANCE GROUP” and have been meeting the insurance needs of the greater Charlotte Area for nearly 8 years. THE RANKIN INSURANCE GROUP is an Independent Insurance Agency representing AIG Agency Auto, Allied Insurance, Auto Owners Insurance Company, Donegal Insurance, Erie Insurance Group, The Hartford, Kemper, Progressive Zurich and several others carriers offering personal insurance (auto and home) as well as commercial insurance (general liability, workers compensation, business auto, bonds) and Group Health and Group Life Insurance. In addition, Darrin teaches continuing education courses for the National Alliances’ Society of CIC programs throughout the country and he is a NC licensed real estate broker, working with Bryan & Associates Real Estate.
Darrin has been active in professional and philanthropic organizations such as Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc, Big Brothers/Big Sister of Charlotte and the Urban Financial Services Coalition.
He is currently Secretary for Precinct 212, a member of the Black Political Caucus of Charlotte, the African American Caucus, the Urban League of Central Carolinas, the NC Association of Realtors and the National Realtor Association. Darrin has taught financial services classes for many churches in the Charlotte area and is a Grade Parent and member of the PTA within CMS school system. He also coach’s youth flag football for the I9 Sports League.
Darrin L. Rankin is a native of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Darrin is the product of a Christian, hard working blue collar family. His mother a homemaker and father was a coal miner for Consol Energy. He is the youngest of four children. Darrin attended Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, located outside of Erie PA. In December 1993, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
Upon graduation, he accepted a position as an Assistant Manager for Hills Department Store in Robinson Township, PA. After several years with Hills he accepted a District Sales Manager position with the Erie Insurance Group, in Erie PA. After 6 months, Darrin relocated to Syracuse NY to develop a new Sales Territory for Erie Insurance. As a District Sales Manager he recruited and trained Agents throughout Central NY. While working for ERIE, Darrin was recognized as the “recruiter of the quarter” several times, as well as “recruiter of the year”. In 1999, Darrin married his wife Holly (Blakeman), who is also a native of Pittsburgh PA.
Darrin and his wife Holly have 2 children ages 6 years and 1 year.
In 2001, Darrin earned his MBA with a concentration in Innovative Management from Syracuse University. While enrolled in Graduate school, Darrin also earned his Associates in Insurance Services (AIS), Certified Professional Insurance Agent (CPIA) and Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designations.
